A new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies is in the works, it was officially announced by Warner Bros on Friday. According to reports, while the makers have picked 2026 as the release for the film, it is still in the early stages of development.
The film that aims to explore the untold stories from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, is tentatively titled ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’It will reportedly focus on the character of Gollum and is set to star and be directed by Andy Serkis, who originally portrayed Gollum in the iconic trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
Andy shared his enthusiasm for the new project, as he "ventures into the unknown".Jackson and his longtime collaborators, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, will be heavily involved in the creative process and writing the screenplay.
Meanwhile, a second season on 'The Lord of the Rings' is in the works. The series, however, is set hundreds of years before the events featured in the film.Warner Bros. first announced the development of new ‘Lord of the Rings’ films about a year ago, after reaching an agreement with rights holders Embracer Group AB to create additional movies based on Tolkien's book series. The original trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, is considered one of the most successful film franchises in history, and Warner Bros. hopes to build on that legacy with these new films.
