Dwayne Johnson Reveals Big Update on Live-Action Moana
Moana star Dwayne Johnson has just given an exciting update on the upcoming live-action version of the beloved Disney animation. In a new BTS video, the actor revealed the production start for the upcoming film.
Dwayne Johnson is keeping his fans updated on his upcoming Disney films. The actor will reprise the role of the Demigod Maui in two upcoming projects. The first one is the surprise Moana sequel, which was initially planned as a TV series and will hit theaters later this year, and the live-action version of the 2016 hit animated film.
In a new Instagram behind-the-scenes video, franchise star Dwayne Johnson revealed a glimpse of him scratch recording his song from Moana, "You're Welcome." The actor proved he did all the singing by himself, and noted that the scratch vocals were for "our upcoming live action film, MOANA." Johnson continued that it was a "Cool day of work with this very talented cadre of artists & filmmakers." He also revealed that the Moana live-action production "begins this fall."
In the post, the actor also tagged director Thomas Kail, who will helm the upcoming adaptation, composer Alex Lacamoire, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the songs for the 2016 animated film.
Moana follows the title character on her quest to help save her village after the plants and fish start dying. With the help of the Demigod Maui and her pet, the rooster Hei Hei, she tries to reach the heart of Te Fiti to restore its heart. The animated film was a huge success for Disney, but no continuation was officially confirmed until last year, when Disney announced a live-action version of the film. This year, Moana 2 was officially confirmed, too.
